Exocet Zypher or Neon? Two inflatable boards, two completely different ways to enjoy the water

Exocet has introduced two new inflatable boards – Zypher and Neon. While they may look similar at first glance, they are designed for two very different types of riders and offer completely different experiences.

Let's take a closer look at what each board was designed for, who will get the most out of it, and which one is the better fit for your riding. If you'd like to see them side by side, don't forget to check out Jaro's comparison video at the end of this article.

Exocet Zypher – the inflatable board that does it all

The Zypher is a true WindSUP. It works equally well as a stand-up paddle board and as an entry-level windsurfing board – simply add a rig and you're ready to learn the basics of windsurfing. It's a great choice for anyone looking for one board to enjoy the water in any conditions, whether there's wind or not. One day you can enjoy a relaxed paddle on a calm lake, and the next you can rig up a sail and start learning the basics of windsurfing.

Its all-round character comes from a combination of generous dimensions and a carefully designed shape. At 10'8" long and 81 cm wide, it offers excellent stability whether you're standing with a paddle or pulling a sail out of the water for the first time. The 253-litre volume provides plenty of confidence for beginners, while the HP construction inflated up to 20 PSI gives the board impressive stiffness for an inflatable design.

The board's shape also plays an important role:

  • the wide nose improves stability,
  • the longer outline helps the board track better while paddling,
  • the centre fin reduces sideways drift when sailing,
  • the rear SUP fin keeps the board moving straight during paddle sessions.

Another nice bonus? You don't have to buy anything else to get started. The package includes the board, pump, backpack, leash, two fins and a three-piece SUP paddle, so you can head straight to the water.

Who is it for?

If you're looking for one board that the whole family can enjoy, want to combine SUP with beginner windsurfing, or simply love the idea of one board for different conditions, the Zypher is exactly what it's made for.

Exocet Neon – an inflatable windsurfing board

Unlike the Zypher, the Neon isn't trying to be a multi-purpose board. It's designed for one thing: making windsurfing as fun and accessible as possible in an inflatable package.

Whether you're learning the basics or already working towards your first planing, the Neon gives you a platform that grows with your skills.

Its 9'2" length makes it noticeably shorter and more compact than the Zypher, giving it a quicker, more responsive feel on the water. Despite its smaller size, the 251-litre volume still provides plenty of stability for beginners, while the windsurf-specific outline encourages faster acceleration and smoother progression.

Several design features help the board get onto the planing earlier and improve overall performance:

  • sharp PVC rails reduce drag and improve water release,
  • twin rear fins enhance control and support earlier planing,
  • a centre fin helps maintain direction in lighter winds and during the learning phase,
  • footstrap inserts allow you to progress towards faster, more dynamic sailing.

The board uses Fusion Composite Dropstitch construction and inflates to 15 PSI, creating a stiff, durable platform that's easy to transport, quick to set up and much easier to store than a traditional hard board.

Just like the Zypher, it comes as a complete package with a backpack, pump, leash and fins, so all you need to add is your windsurf rig.

Who is it for?

The Neon is aimed at beginner and progressing windsurfers who want the convenience of an inflatable board.

So... which one should you choose?

Both boards are inflatable. Both are easy to carry, easy to store and perfect for travelling. The difference comes down to what you actually want to do on the water.

Choose the Zypher if you want to:

  • combine SUP and windsurfing in one board,
  • maximise stability and ease of use,
  • share a quite universal board with friends or family.

Choose the Neon if you want to:

  • focus primarily on windsurfing,
  • progress faster and improve your technique,
  • work towards your first planing sessions
